January 2002

A Happy 2002 to you all

It has been some while since we, your committee, have communicated with you all, other than through the magazine. Last year Colin produced the F3J magazine with great enthusiasm and skill to keep you the F3J flyers in the UK up to speed on developments and changes in our sport. The support from Sydney and Adrian has been a great source of news on European developments from our German and Dutch F3J friends and the aerodynamic enviroment that allows our models to fly. I am sure most people have been keen to read “Uncle Sydney’s” column, Adrian’s articles and Nick’s competition reports, which have stimulated the grey matter by helping to get one’s head around the concept of F3J flying in competition and the aerodynamic techniques that in these days are so important but which have been neglected or forgotten from many mags.

It is in our plan to maintain the magazine for F3J-UK members, with a new editorial team, and we expect to bring a wealth of interesting material from the original contributing team with the addition of new writers and articles. So if any of you would like to contribute, let me know!

We are very apreciative of your membership and hope that you will re-join your specialist interest body.

  • Where else can you get so much for so little £5 membership fee?
  • 18 months of membership with renewal at the end of Feb 2002!
  • YES – the membership for 2002-2003 remains at £5

The BMFA F3J League this year will be coordinated by two active F3J flyers responsible to F3J-UK and BARCS – Nick Evans and Kevin Beale. They have the full backing of both committees. Although experienced they may not be completely familiar with the running of a league so your support and encouragement will be welcomed The intention is that a League result sheet will be published by the Coordinators. But to get quick details you can look at our website – www.f3j.co.uk - and all the background information will be contained in the magazine - along with the familiar content that you have enjoyed for the last two years.

Your voice on SFTC

As a specialist body the F3J-UK Association has a place on the SFTC, and our delegate Nick Evans is always happy to take your concerns and suggestions to the committee, or let you know what has been going on. You can E-mail him on nick@bluespoon.com or talk to him at any of the comps.

As you can see your F3J-UK is very much alive!

The committee is not content to rest upon its laurels and success.
We have:

  • Succeeded in our bid for specialist body status
  • Succeeded in the running of the 6 event F3J league
  • Succeeded in producing a lively, topical and interesting magazine
  • Listened and responded to your comments and criticisms.

For the 2002 we shall endeavour to maintain the high profile presence and put into effect the following aims:

  • Continue to produce the only magazine dedicated to F3J
  • Be heavily involved in the well being of F3J in the UK
  • Encourage the British F3J Team for Finland in what ever ways we are able
  • Arrange informal fly-ins to encourage a more competitive edge to flying
  • Chase the possible YOUTH to increase the league participation.
  • Help to arrange team travel to Euro-Tour events
  • Be ready to maintain the hand tow requirements for FAI comps
  • Entertain a possible link up with the Dutch or German Team flyers
